Period Oak Restoration Projects
Shines, through the sympathetic restoration of the original craftsmanship that our company is so passionate and considerate of. All of us here at S Harlow Period Oak are so respectful of the traditional way in which oak framed buildings were crafted and are extremely proud that we continue to use the same methods in the frames that we produce today.
Because we use the same methods as the carpenters of old, we have an in depth knowledge and understanding of original oak framed buildings and specialise in restoring by replicating the original timbers.
We have worked in partnership with conservation officers on numerous projects on a wide array of
buildings including churches, barns, mills, and
houses.
We have surveyed, numbered and dismantled entire buildings,
carried out repairs in our workshop and reassembled them back on site.
We have lifted, straightened and repaired many buildings near
collapse.
The initial examination of each restoration project is of
vital importance. From this we ascertain the exact timber sizes and
jointing details from the outset. Also from this information we can
gauge the history and development of each building.
This area of our business always gives us an enormous sense of
fulfillment knowing that we have given another beautiful oak framed
building another lease of life.
