Oak frame construction and the environment
The protection of our environment is with us in all areas of
life, now more than ever there is a focus upon what we can do to
actively play our part in making a contribution in considering the
individual impact we have upon it.
This
is something we have looked at within our company and have taken our
own measures in the way we work on a daily basis to have a minimal
impact on the environment. The oak that we use in the construction of
our houses could not be any more environmentally friendly due to it
being an entirely natural product. We also ensure that all of our oak
is sourced from managed forests and order in bulk to reduce the mileage
it covers.
Oak framed construction is
renowned for its longevity and there are oak framed houses dating as
far back as the 12th century that are still lived in today. Oak framed
houses stand far longer than the time it takes for an oak tree to grow
to the point it can be felled and used for construction, therefore
making it an extremely sustainable and friendly choice of building
material.
We pride ourselves in retaining the skills and methods used by the original medieval carpenters whose work we now emulate. Using these methods means that our frames are hand crafted with hand tools and there is no large machinery used in our manufacture process. This traditional craftsmanship delivers a very low carbon footprint.

There are so many routes that can be taken when considering how green your house is, from providing energy, heating, insulation, recycling and many more.
As all of our houses are designed around the requirements of each individual client, this gives us the flexibility to look at incorporating your environmental requests and work with you to explore the possibilities available.
We firmly believe that being environmentally friendly doesn’t need to be, necessarily, achieved through an eco glass box, we will strive to realise the environmentally friendly house you desire though a beautiful oak framed building.
